As a company, Shweiki is pleased to announce that its employees worked together on this year’s food drive to raise 614 pounds of food for donation to the San Antonio Food Bank.
The mission of the San Antonio Food Bank is to fight hunger in Southwest Texas through food distribution, programs, education and advocacy. The food bank partners with more than 500 human service agencies to help feed the hungry throughout sixteen counties in that region, moving more than 50 million pounds of food a year and providing emergency food assistance to 58,000 people each week.
The food bank doesn’t simply provide food for the hungry, however. The organization also puts an emphasis on education and offers classes for anyone looking to:
•eat healthier
•reach a healthy weight
•increase physical activity
•learn how to shop on a budget
•learn to cook quick and easy healthy meals
•prevent or manage diabetes
•raise a healthy eater
•start a garden
•learn proper food safety and handling
Those interested in helping out the San Antonio Food Bank can donate food, money (the value of food distributed for every dollar donated is $13), or even time, via the bank’s volunteer opportunities.
