How Has Marketing Shifted Over the Years and What You Can Do About It

Marketing – it’s absolutely essential, whether you’re a solopreneur or a large company with hundreds of employees. But it’s not enough to simply market our businesses as we’ve been doing for years. The way we market is just as important as putting forth the effort to market in the first place.

Thank goodness, then, for the latest marketing thought leaders who have a strong grasp of the latest marketing trends. These folks – like a recent guest of mine, Mathew Sweezey – understand and can foresee the evolution of marketing.

Based on this knowledge, they can educate the rest of us so that we can implement better marketing strategies that will appeal to our audience.

How and Why Marketing Techniques Are Always Fluctuating

According to Mathew, marketing always changes based on our environment. Over the years, our environment has shifted from analog to digital, and then from digital to social.

We are now in what Mathew calls the infinite era, which is essentially a flip-flop of the old school way of marketing.

In the past, the media environment was controlled by very few people, like high-capital businesses. These days, the consumer is in control.

The largest creators of media today are individuals, and with millions of people online, it’s important for business owners to understand how to break through all of the online chatter.

How Business Owners Can Attract Their Ideal Customer

In the infinite age, algorithms are created because there’s so much content online. These algorithms filter the messages we see, providing each individual with the content they want to see.

Therefore, if your content isn’t aimed at what your target market really wants, you won’t even get in front of them, let alone attract them to your brand.

It’s also important to create an experience for the customer based on their likes, wants, and needs. Mathew calls this contextual-marketing.

The experience you create actually becomes the product in your customers’ lives. When you provide an authentic, personal experience for your customers they’re more likely to take a second look at your product or service.

When considering how to adjust your marketing strategies, always keep in mind that the world is more human-to-human than ever before.

Stay Up-to-Date with the Trends to Bring About Consistent Success

Over the past few years, the way we market to our audience has definitely changed. Companies aren’t the driving force behind their marketing efforts any longer, so portraying themselves as an entity that knows what the customer wants more than the customer knows will no longer work.

Consumers are in the driver’s seat now. They know what they want, and marketing has evolved to meet that need.

Have your marketing strategies changed in the past few years? If not, it would be a good idea to evaluate them and see if they’re viable in today’s marketing environment.

Refusing to change and meet the needs of consumers can have a detrimental effect on your business. But if you take the time to learn about the latest trends, you’re more likely to achieve consistent success.
